Aston Midshires Car Insurance Scam

February 3rd, 2012

Drivers throughout the UK are being urged to exercise diligence when purchasing their motor insurance as a recent case shows there are companies out there that are not authorised to sell insurance, thus, null and voiding any cover.

The news came about when a driver from Lancashire was pulled over for seemingly not having any insurance when checked by an officer. It transpired that the driver in question believed that he was insured by a company registered overseas which trades under the name Aston Midshires and whom aims their products at the younger driver.

It would appear that Aston Midshires of Enderby, Leicestershire have been swindling the good honest public out of their hard earned cash and charging for insurance that does not exist.

The company which was added to the Financial Services Authority (FSA) on the 10th January was showing a page 404 error when you tried to reach their website by 12th January. Since then the police, Leicestershire trading’s'' standards and the Serious Fraud Office have begun investigations.

By 12th January, 30 of the companies’ customers had come forward with concerns that they were not insured and since then it has gone viral. The original 30 are thought to be just a puddle in the ocean of overall numbers uninsured and for the serious fraud unit to be involved, it is certainly no small matter.

The companies Underwriters European Wood AB who are based in Sweden are in Liquidation and therefore you may find that you are not covered as a result.

If you think you may be a victim of this scam, please do not drive your car until you have checked the DirectGov website and if in doubt, contact the FSA.
