Sharing Your Driving Licence Details

To ensure your details are uploaded correctly, please make sure you have the below to hand:

  • Last 8 digits from your driving licence (but don’t include the issue number)
  • If using a share code, don’t forget this is case sensitive, so you’ll have to enter it as it appears

If you need help filling in the form, our Webchat team are here to help. If you need help obtaining your DVLA Share Code, please see the guide below the form.

Please note that this service is only available to you if your licence was issued in the United Kingdom (this excludes Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands). This service is not to be used to establish the status of either a licence application or penalty points.

Providing Information from Your Driving Licence

There are two ways in which you can provide your driving licence details. You can generate your own unique share code by visiting this website.
OR you can let Acorn Insurance complete this step for you.

To generate your own unique share code, follow this link: www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence and click “Start Now”. Follow the instructions to generate your unique share code. You can then enter this code into the applicable field in the form below.

If you agree to let Acorn Insurance do a driving licence check for you, we will then have access to your details on the DVLA database. If you are happy to consent to this, please enter your driving licence number, National Insurance number and postcode into the form above (along with the required fields). By letting Acorn access your details from the DVLA database, you’re effectively asking us to complete a driving licence check for you. Please note that your data will be held for up to 3 years.

The relevant form will appear when you select the appropriate option under the section entitled “Do You Have a Share Code?”. This allows you to complete the correct document. Both options eliminate the need for you to send through any further paper documentation.

What Acorn Will See When Accessing the DVLA Database

If you choose to let us view your details on the DVLA database – and not to generate your own share code – Acorn Insurance will then have access to some of your personal information.

This information will include any disqualifications you might have had, any penalty points on your licence and the types of vehicle that you are qualified to drive.

If you do not wish to share this information, you can opt to use your unique share code, as explained. You can obtain this by following the instructions provided after visiting www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence.
